This article says middle class children are subjected to opportunity and lower class children are subjected to adversity. Kristof says the life you grow up living is related to what you inherit from your parents and how they parent you. This is based off of the situations you grew up in.
Analysis
The bulk of the story is formed around narratives of experiences growing up in poverty and having your children growing up in the same situations. He uses direct quotes, but he mostly paraphrases. The column has descriptive language, statistics, and a flowing story. It is different from a straight news story because there isn’t a split in the graphs pointing out a specific lede. Also, the format doesn’t go in descending order of importance.
